We are sending a big “thank you” to the Capital City Kiwanis and extending our sincere appreciation for the generous donation of four “Little Libraries.” This was a project that started in 2022 when the Boise City Ada County Housing Authorities joined BookRich Environment. BookRich is a National Collaboration among non-profit organizations, national government agencies, and corporate publishers that aims to help bring new books and the joy of reading to our public housing and low-income families and communities.
The families living in HUD assisted housing often experience “book desserts” in their home. A book dessert is when young people lack the ready, easy access to books and reading material in their homes and local communities. Research indicates that access to books and reading for pleasure help improve outcomes for young people and families living in under resourced communities.
The Capital City Kiwanis generously donated 18-man hours, with the help of TNT Specialties LLC, who built the boxes for us, and Doug Cox who put on the roofing materials and painted them. Because of your generous donation, the Boise City Ada County Housing Authorities will be able to place these free little libraries in four of our communities to help spread a love of reading to its residents and nearby neighbors. This would not have been possible without your time and expertise.
Thank you again for your support and contribution to the community!
